Volvo XC70 Plug-in Hybrid, making way for range

The Volvo XC70 is making a comeback in the Swedish automaker's lineup, this time as a next-generation plug-in hybrid vehicle. Volvo is reviving the versatile DNA of the model while adapting it to today’s demands for sustainable mobility. The goal is clear: to offer an elegant, family-friendly, and technically advanced solution that suits both city driving and long-distance travel.

The key strength of the XC70 plug-in hybrid lies in its electric range. Thanks to a next-gen battery, it can travel over 200 km on the CLTC cycle around 140 km based on EPA estimates used in our region. This marks a significant leap forward compared to Volvo's previous plug-in hybrids, allowing most drivers to complete their daily commutes in fully electric mode.

Fast charging capability

The XC70 supports DC fast charging, capable of recharging the battery from 0% to 80% in about 23 minutes. Volvo also adds a vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature, allowing users to power external devices directly from the car’s battery. Whether for outdoor adventures or professional use, this function greatly enhances the model’s versatility.

Built on the Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA) platform, the XC70 combines a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine with one or more electric motors, depending on the version. This setup delivers a combined range exceeding 1,200 km, offering peace of mind and flexibility for long-distance journeys.

Inside, Volvo stays true to its signature Scandinavian design: clean lines, high-quality materials, and integrated technology. The vehicle features a 15.4-inch central display, a digital instrument cluster, and an optional augmented reality head-up display.

The Volvo XC70 plug-in hybrid is currently available for pre-order in the Chinese market. But don’t lose hope, Volvo has confirmed that the model will cross oceans and eventually make its way to ALBI Volvo. The only question that remains is: when?
