Volvo EX60 and EX60 Cross Country: Sweden's ambitious electrification project

Volvo EX60 and EX60 Cross Country: Sweden's ambitious electrification project

Swedish automaker Volvo continues its transition to electric vehicles with the introduction of two new all-electric compact SUVs: the Volvo EX60 and its more rugged counterpart, the EX60 Cross Country. These models, expected at ALBI the Giant and across the Canadian market starting in fall 2026 (P10 version), represent the next step in the brand's electrification strategy, combining performance, range, and technological innovation.

A new generation of Volvo electric SUV

The Volvo EX60 is based on a new 800-volt electric architecture designed to optimize efficiency, fast charging, and range. Two main configurations will be available: the P10 version develops 375 horsepower with 710 lb-ft of torque, while the P12 variant offers up to 500 horsepower and 790 lb-ft. Thanks to these electric powertrains, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds (P10) and 3.9 seconds (P12), respectively.

In terms of range, Volvo has announced some very promising figures: up to 640 kilometers on a single charge for the P12 version according to EPA standards. This performance is made possible by high-capacity batteries—95 kWh (91 kWh usable) for the P10 and 117 kWh (112 kWh usable) for the P12—and an extremely fast charging system. When connected to a compatible charging station, the EX60 can go from 10% to 80% range in about 18 minutes with a maximum charging power of 370 kW.

EX60 Cross Country: a more adventurous approach

The EX60 Cross Country stands out with a slightly more adventurous spirit. Inspired by the Cross Country versions that have made Volvo's reputation, this variant features specific aesthetic elements—such as exclusive wheels, stainless steel skid plates, and dedicated markings—as well as 20 mm higher ground clearance compared to the standard model. Added to this is air suspension that can further increase ride height when conditions require better off-road capability.

Technically, the EX60 Cross Country uses the same powertrains as the base model, with standard all-wheel drive that improves traction on a variety of surfaces. The suspension tuning makes for a more confident and versatile driving experience without compromising on-road efficiency.

Technology, design, and onboard experience

Volvo has also paid particular attention to the aerodynamics of the EX60, with a competitive drag coefficient that helps maximize range. Inside, occupants will enjoy modern technology, including an optional premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system designed to deliver an immersive sound experience.

In summary, the Volvo EX60 and EX60 Cross Country represent a significant step forward in Volvo's electric lineup, combining performance, high range, fast charging, and functional design. Their upcoming arrival at ALBI the Giant will expand the options for consumers who want to make the leap to an electric SUV without compromising on the quality, safety, or dynamic capabilities that characterize the brand.
